I recently started reading The Mafia Nanny, a webtoon that is totally different from what I usually pick.
As a big fan of Lookism, I was looking for something with a similar vibe. I am not usually into mafia romance stuff, but I decided to give it a shot anyway.
The first chapter is basically the backstory of the main character Davina. The official synopsis of the manhwa is:
The Mafia Nanny follows Davina, an elite nanny who’s equipped with special skills. Her first assignment out of the Elite Nanny Academy is to protect the young son of the Venetian mafia underboss, Gabriel Angelini. What her new employer doesn’t know is that Davina herself has some past connections to the mafia.
The Mafia Nanny Chapter 1 Recap
The Mafia Nanny Chapter 1 starts with a look into Davina’s childhood. She grew up living a luxurious and carefree life, with her parents giving her everything she could ever want.
But she never questioned what they did for a living. It wasn’t something she ever had to think about.
That is, until it was too late, turns out, that her parent’s profession was far more dangerous than she ever imagined.
The enemies invaded her home and set her house on fire. Her parents ask Mrs. Bremerton to take her to someplace safe.
Mrs. Bremerton, the headmistress of ENA, explains to Davina that they have to make her strong, even stronger than her parents for what’s to come.
I can teach you how to protect other children, like you!
Davina agrees and she starts training at Elite Nanny Academy. She spends eight years in this academy learning.
Gabriel Angelini visits the academy to hire someone who hasn’t worked with anyone else. The headmistress shows him some options. All the ENA grads have:
They do have other skills as well. Gabriel Angelini wants someone to look at his child while he is busy, since he is a Mafioso boss he has enemies and those enemies can kidnap his child for revenge.
After looking at the options, he chooses Davina. The headmistress tries to convince Gabriel not to hire her, but she ends up being the perfect choice for him. Mrs. Bremerton then tells Davina about her first assignment.
She gets happy but as soon as she hears the name of the client, she realizes why Mrs Bremerton didn’t want her to be on this assignment.
It was the Angelini family who burnt her house that night. But Davina takes up the offer anyway to figure out what really happened that night.
Review
The first chapter sets up the story perfectly, giving a glimpse of Davina’s past and the intense circumstances that shaped her.
The pacing is quick yet detailed, a solid start that hooks you in and leaves you curious for more. I will be covering more of this series as soon as I complete the whole manhwa!
