The episode starts with Frenchie trying to create the virus from Kimiko’s amputated leg which was affected by the supe killing Virus. Singer’s life is in danger as a shapeshifter has been hired to assassinate the singer (would be president).

Hughie and the team do not know whose face has the shapeshifter taken so they are trying to create the virus as soon as possible to kill Victoria Neuman.

Meanwhile, the Shapeshifter who has taken the face of Starlight, proposes Hughie to gain his trust more. She has deleted all the files on Victoria Neuman.

MM asks Hughie to bring the files as a nuclear option against Neuman but when he checks his laptop, all the files are gone.

I don’t know why it didn’t raise any questions, maybe the shapeshifter sex really got to Hughie that his mind didn’t bother thinking about the obvious.

The Boys Personally Bodyguard Singer

As there was no other option left for The Boys, MM orders everyone to personally bodyguard Singer. However, he doesn’t know Starlight (Shapeshifter) is the assassin and is with them. During the briefing, Hughie realizes that Starlight is not Starlight and he tells this to MM but it is already too late.

Shapeshifter murders the whole protective squad of Singer but The Boys take him to safety while Kimiko tries to hold Shapeshifter off.

Shapeshifter overwhelms Kimiko and goes directly for singer but real starlight arrives after breaking those chains physically. She kills the shapeshifter and takes the ring out of her finger.

As shown in episode 7, Butcher was already sick because of the super cancer, and at the end of the episode, he fell down. When he woke up in Episode 8, he was in the hospital.

Grace Mallory comes to visit him to tell him that there is no other choice than to bring Ryan here and train him to kill Homelander.

Butcher who has already given up on his life, first hesitates but eventually ends up texting Ryan.

Hughie calls Butcher but Butcher says to him to go to a steakhouse for his sake and to tell the team he is sorry, as he was about to die.

Ryan who is apparently angry at Homelander for destroying the Butcher and Becca photo, comes to visit Butcher. Homelander goes rogue as he sees the photo of Becca and Butcher in his bag, and destroys the entire room.

Homelander orders Ryan to come to him but he runs away to Butcher. Butcher then plays with Ryan while Grace watches and then asks Butcher to tell the truth to Ryan.

Ryan then declines to kill his father and tries to run away, grace tries to stop her but Ryan pushes her a little too hard that she hits the wall and dies. Butcher realizes that there is no other way than to let Kessler handle things.

Butcher arrives at the scene with powers, tentacles coming out of his chest strong enough to hold Neuman in the air.

He then tears Neuman apart and murders her. Zoe who tried to intervene also was knocked out.

The Boys try to intervene but Butcher is now way too strong for anyone else to handle. He then asks everyone to leave and takes the virus from Frenchie.

Sage Plan Worked

Sage planned the whole Singer assassination but Homelander betrays her and kicks her out of The Seven for hiding things from him. However, Sage had alternate plans too.

Homelander thought everything was over and it didn’t work like he wanted it to but Sage arrived and told him that everything worked according to her plans and she didn’t back down from her deal.

Homelander and his supporters successfully staged a coup, with Calhoun becoming the new President of the United States of America.

In the end, Singer was arrested for conspiracy to murder Neuman and Homelander became the leader of all the supes in the country.

The Boys Got Captured

At the end of the credit scenes, we see The Boys running away to different countries but as soon as they go their separate ways they are all captured. Kimiko and Frenchie are ambushed by Cate and Sam, Cate mind controls Frenchie meanwhile Sam overwhelms Kimiko and captures her.

Hughie and Starlight are ambushed by the telekinesis supe Cindy we saw in Season 2. Hughie goes without resisting since he has no powers. Meanwhile, starlight powers return and she flies away, it seems she can now fly like Homelander and Noir.

Moreover, there is another end-credit scene in which we see Homelander standing near the cryogenic chamber holding Soldier Boy. It is confirmed that we will see Soldier Boy in Season 5.

Final Words

The story has been built up quite well with the season finale for Season 5, the final season of the series. Butcher has powers strong enough to kill even Neuman and has the virus to kill any supe too.

Homelander now has everything he wanted and everything went according to Sage’s plan with a few setbacks.

The Boys are now captured. So, there is no stopping Homelander and his plans. Butcher will most likely save The Boys in the upcoming season and the fight will go 3 way, Butcher, Soldier Boy, and Homelander fighting each other.
