The Boys Season 4 Episode 6 Review and Recap – Joe Kessler Is Not Real

I told you all, Joe Kessler is a hallucination. It was pretty obvious as Joe never met anyone other than Billy in Season 4. The Boys Season 4 Episode started where the previous episode had left off, with Butcher convincing Sameer to make the virus to kill Supes.

Butcher figured out Sameer won’t help him but Kessler kept coming up with ways to torture Sameer so he would make the virus. Frenchie surrendered in the previous episode. Kimiko tries to visit him in Jail but Frenchie declines all visitations.

The Boys team now only consists of MM, Hughie, Starlight, and Kimiko. A-Train called MM to say he is out but MM convinces him that he should think about his brother. A-Train then gives a valuable piece of information to MM.

WebWeaver Introduced

If you are thinking Webweaver is similar to Spiderman, you are wrong in so many ways. He is a junkie and he does not even fire Web from his hands.

MM brings him heroine but he sedates him and gives his suit to Hughie so he can attend the Tek Knight party. Homelander and Sage planned to convince the board to go against Robert Singer. Neuman is also backing up Homelander.

Hughie manages to enter the party and bugs the entire room but Tek Knight takes him to Tek Cave. Now Hughie didn’t know what he signed up for and Ashley showed up to spice things up for Tek. Ashley and Tek did inappropriate things to Hughie.

Mission Save Hughie

Tek Knight eventually found out it was Hughie as he removed the mask of Web Weaver. In the meantime, The Boys decided to rescue Hughie. MM shoots sage but eventually, she heals up and due to brain damage she becomes stupid.

MM gets a Panic attack afterward and A-Train takes him to the hospital. However, Starlight and Kimiko manage to save Hughie from getting murdered by Tek Knight. They at first torture Tek Knight physically but it was no use then they decide to take a different approach suggested by the sidekick of Tek Knight.

They started sending Tek Knight’s money to different causes. Tek Knight ended up telling Homelander’s plan to the team. Tek Knight gets murdered by his own Butler (parody of Alferd).

Joe Kessler Is Not Real

I did publish a theory on this after episode 3. At the end of Episode 6, we see Kessler telling Butcher he never saved him. He is Billy Butcher’s alter ego. Sameer was also confused since Butcher had been talking to himself lately.

Kessler is the bad side of Butcher meanwhile Becca is the good side. Sameer told Butcher that if he cooks up a virus strong enough to kill Homelander it will be airborne and it will end up wiping all the supes.

Kessler wants to go with this decision but Becca wants Butcher to think about Kimiko and Annie. So, good and bad are both present in Butcher now fighting each other. Joe Kessler tells Butcher that this is exactly what Butcher wants. At the end of the episode, Joe Kessler (Alter Ego of Butcher) says Daddy’s Home and leaves.

Final Words

The Butcher is confused right now between doing a Supe Genocide or ignore this method of taking down Homelander. The episode seemed rushed, I loved the previous episode but this episode was all about politics and freaky stuff. Joe Kessler did confirm that he took over Butcher’s body to kill Ezekiel but we never got an explanation how did he?

Well, most likely Butcher has powers but we have yet to see what powers Butcher get. Some fans on Reddit are convinced that Butcher is now like Venom. I do expect a showdown between Butcher and Homelander this season otherwise it would be so boring.

Rating: 3 out of 5.
