Shinjuku Showdown is the final arc of JJK and it has been confirmed by Gege Akutami, the author of Jujutsu Kaisen. The manga is expected to finish this year. The current started in chapter 222 and is currently in chapter 263. A lot has happened in the Shinjuku Showdown Arc including the death of Gojo Satoru.
After him, a lot of sorcerers arrived to fight Sukuna and died. Before the showdown between Gojo and Sukuna, Sukuna left Yuji’s body and started using Megumi’s. The character development of Yuji in this arc was so on point, he was sidelined in the previous arcs but got to shine a lot in this one.
Gege Akutami, always planned for the series to end relatively soon. The Culling Game Arc was meant to set things up for the final arc. Thanks to alen on Twitter for translating the comment of Gege on the final arc and culling games:
Who Will Defeat Sukuna?
Right now Yuta is fighting Sukuna using Gojo’s body and has the upper hand. In the latest chapter, Yuta managed to land some hits on Sukuna even though he is having hard time adjusting to Gojo’s long legs and arms.
Moreover, his copy technique has a timer so he needs to settle things before the timer runs out.
At the end of the latest chapter, we saw Yuta preparing to launch the Hollow Purple, the move that Sukuna fears the most. Yuta managed to stop Sukuna using Inumaki’s cursed technique.
However, it is highly unlikely that Yuta will defeat Sukuna. Most likely Yuta will be able to damage him enough for Yuji to deliver the final blow.
What about Merger and Tengen?
But there are a lot of unresolved issues in the manga that Gege needs to address before the end of the Shinjuku Showdown Arc.
There has been no discussion of Tengen or the merger in the latest chapters even though Kenjaku started the whole culling games to merge Tengen and the people of Japan and called it Great Merger.
From the looks of it, Gege is going to ignore the Merger and focus entirely on the Sukuna. Sukuna has killed so many Jujutsu sorcerers already. Even Yuta’s fate is hanging on a thread. We will find out in the next chapter if Yuta will be able to deliver Hollow Purple.
Final Words
While Gege has announced that manga will end this year, there is no news on JJK Season 3 yet since MAPPA is already busy with other big projects. A lot of fans were hoping to hear about the Season 3 release date at the Anime Expo 2024 but all we got is that the director is returning for season 3 and he is excited about the Maki vs Zenin clan fight animation.
After the season 2 Shibuya Incident, MAPPA released the teaser of season 3 announcing that the upcoming season 3 will adopt the Culling Games Arc.
