The Boys Season 4 concluded today with so many huge cliffhangers. Billy is finally embracing the dark side that came with his supercancer (Compound V Cancer). After Billy finds out about Joe Kessler, he starts to ignore him, gives him complete silent treatment, and does the exact opposite of what Kessler wants him to do.

Joe Kessler is Billy Butcher’s alter ego, his super cancer conjured up a person from Billy’s past whom he didn’t save.

He is actually the part of Billy that wants to kill every supe on the entire planet. However, another part of Butcher does not want to do a Genocide.

Throughout the season, Billy has been seeing Joe Kessler and his dead wife Becca. However, in the finale Billy finally lets Kessler drive his body after Ryan accidentally kills Grace. But who is really in control? Joe Kessler or Billy Butcher? Let’s find out!

Who is in control of Butcher’s Body?

Butcher and Joe Kessler came to some sort of agreement. Throughout the finale, we see Butcher giving up on his life even though Kessler tells him that he can help him. However, Butcher wanted to go out in peace. Grace then asks one last favor from Butcher to convince Ryan to fight Homelander.

However, after Ryan finds out why Butcher really invited him, he tries to leave but Grace stops her. Ryan then accidentally pushes her a little too hard that her head smacks on the wall and she dies.

Ryan then leaves and Butcher looks at Kessler, there is just silence, butcher is ready to get help from his alter ego.

The first thing Butcher does after Joe Kessler (his alter ego) helps him, he go to The Boys and find out Neuman is there. Butcher releases the tentacles from his chest and kills Neuman by tearing her apart.

This power manifests as tentacle-like appendages emerging from his chest. These tentacles are powerful enough to kill other Supes.

However, even in that moment, Butcher is in control. If it was Kessler, he would have killed Zoe, Starlight, and Kimiko on the spot. Kessler wants to kill every Supe but Butcher letting others go means he still has control. Moreover, he also says “You are welcome” after killing Neuman.

The full extent of Butcher’s powers and their potential consequences remain unclear. In the end scene of the season finale, we see Butcher checking out the virus in his car and Kessler is sitting in the backseat. Butcher is smiling in this scene.
