Chainsaw Man Chapter 173 is finally here. The title of the chapter is “Hard of Hearing” since Denji has consumed the Ear Devil in the previous chapter.
In this article, I am going to discuss what happened in Chainsaw Man Chapter 173.
CSM 172 Recap
In the previous chapter, we saw Denji has gone off the rails. Denji’s mental state has been damaged because he has lost a lot of his friends lately.
Public Safety (The Devil Hunter company) attempts to capture Denji but is easily defeated.
Then they immediately detonated a bomb right under where Denji was standing so they could damage him and capture him.
However, Denji survived the blast too, Public Safety sent yet another team even though they knew they would die. They were also unsuccessful.
At the end of CSM 172, Denji ate the Ear Devil, and the ears in that world disappeared.
What Happened in Chainsaw Man 173?
The chapter is relatively shorter than previous chapters but it was still PEAK!
The chapter starts with a panel showing that both humans and animals no longer have ears anymore.
People are dropping their phones as they can no longer hear anymore.
Public Safety members then test the theory using the prisoners if Ears have really disappeared from the world and then after confirming they say the Erasure of “EAR” is confirmed.
After confirmation, a new primal devil (not confirmed) is shown in this chapter, which looks like REM from Deathnote. T
his devil fights with the Black Chainsaw Man. During the fight, Yoshida shows up. Public Safety seems to be going all out against Denji.
In the end, Hirofumi Yoshida uses his octopus devil to subdue Denji and squeeze him so hard that he ends up throwing up the Ear Devil.
This brought back the concept of EARs in the world and now everyone has ears again.
Final Words
A new devil is introduced in the chapter. However, I don’t know what kind of devil it is but the design is cool.
This chapter also confirmed that Denji’s erasure ability can be reversed by making him throw up the devil he consumed/ate.
There is no break, so Chainsaw Man Chapter 174 will be released on the 13th of August.
