Black Myth Wukong is releasing tomorrow the preload is already available on Steam. The pre-load size of Black Myth: Wukong is 118.12 GB and the remaining will be available on the launch day.

The total size of the game size is 130GB. Just like every other big game on Steam, Black Myth Wukong will also take quite a while to unpack after you download it.

There is no need to worry about the long unpacking time. The game is twice the size of Elden Ring and even with my Samsung SSD 980 PCIe NVMe Elden Ring took about an hour to unpack.

However, there are a few things you can do to try and speed up the unpacking of Black Myth Wukong. These steps might not make a huge difference, but they could help a little bit.

Entire unpacking process depends on your SSD/HDD whichever you are using, though I will highly recommend upgrading to an SSD if you still have an HDD.

How To Speed Up Unpacking Black Myth Wukong

Open your Task Manager (right-click on your taskbar and choose it). Go to the “Details” tab. Find the “Steam.exe” program.

Right-click on it and choose “Set priority” then “High”. This tells your computer to focus more power on Steam, helping it unpack faster.

In case the entire unpacking process is stuck, you need to close the steam completely. Go to where Steam is installed on your computer “C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam” in my case.

Find the “steamapps” folder and open it. Delete everything inside the “depotcache” folder. Don’t touch anything else! Now reopen Steam again, and the issue will be resolved.

Also, do make sure you have enough space in the disk, even after the download has been completed you should have at least 20-30 GB extra in the disk.

Final Words

Again I am telling you, this won’t make the unpacking process super fast. Unpacking is something you need to bear with for some time and then you can enjoy the game.
