DanDaDan Episode 1 is finally here. This anime is one of the most hyped-up adaptations in recent years.
The manga is drawn by Yukinobu Tatsu, and the animation studio behind the anime is Science Saru. I am usually not into supernatural thrillers but this anime really caught my attention. I have not read the manga yet but after this review, I will be starting the manga as well.
Dandadan Episode 1 Recap
The latest episode title is That’s How Love Starts, Ya Know. The episode starts with introducing the two main characters, a boy Ken Takakura (Okarun) who is obsessed with stuff like aliens and UFOs, and a girl Momo Ayase who believes in ghosts.
They don’t believe in each other’s ideas, but they are both determined to prove their points. They decide to settle it with a challenge. Ken searches for ghosts, while Momo checks out a place rumored to have aliens.
Turns out both are real! Momo gets abducted by aliens, and Ken is possessed by a ghost called Turbo Granny.
Aliens abducted the Momo so that they could steal her reproductive organs while Ken’s banana (you know what I mean) actually got stolen.
In a flashback, Momo’s grandmother tries to teach her about using psychic powers. But instead of believing her, Momo gets made fun of by her friends and ends up thinking her grandma is a fraud.
She starts to believe that spirits don’t exist. However, after Momo gains the powers, she realizes her grandmother was right all along.
Ken gains the ability to transform into a monster after getting cursed by the Turbo Granny, while Momo gains the ability to use her psychic powers.
Aliens were preparing to steal her organs, suddenly Ken arrived through Momo’s phone using some kind of teleportation technique.
There were a total of 3 aliens, he was able to fight with one alien but others overpowered him. He actually came to save Momo but instead, Momo ended up saving him using her psychic powers.
Momo also manages to save Ken from Granny by using her powers to repel the possession but Granny reveals that Ken will remain cursed since she has his banana.
Momo and Ken use the UFO to escape and then Ken asks Momo to go back home as he will be going back to granny to get his banana back. But Momo decided to go along with him. She asks about Ken’s name.
The episode ended on a cliffhanger with Momo shocked to hear that he has the same name as her beloved actor.
Review
The episode gives us a look at the two main characters, Ken and Momo, and how their different beliefs lead to some wild situations.
While the episode felt a bit basic and only adapted the first chapter of the manga, I still have high hopes for what’s to come.
