Chainsaw Man 185 Review: Denji’s Hunger Fueled Escape

Chainsaw Man 185 is here, and Asa and Denji are still trapped in the Aging World. The last chapter left us with Denji running circles around the area, claiming he had a smart plan to escape.

In this chapter, we finally learn what that plan is, and let’s just say it’s very “Denji.”

I’ll give you a quick recap of the events of the previous chapter and the latest chapter and share my thoughts on Chainsaw Man 185.

Chainsaw Man 184 Recap

  • Chainsaw Man 184 titled, “Run Denji” starts with Devil Hunter holding onto a tree while Denji is running around.
  • Asa notices Denji running in circles around the lake and asks Yoru what his plan could be. Yoru guesses Denji might just be avoiding reality altogether, just like the Devil Hunter.
  • The aging Devil notices Denji, comes out of a tree, and mocks him. He offers him the same deal again.
  • All he needs to do is convince Pochita to eat Aging Devil and he will let Denji out.
  • The Aging Devil tries to break Denji by bringing up Nayuta’s death. However, Denji claims he can keep moving forward no matter what life throws at him. Even if he loses his family, he can always rebuild and keep going.
  • Aging Devil mocks Denji for being “dumber than Pochita,” But Denji counters him by saying, his escape plan is already in motion.

What Happened in Chainsaw Man 185?

Aging Devil and Denji

Chainsaw Man 185, titled “Stomach in Another World,” starts with the Aging Devil revealing there is no exit from the Aging World Denji is trapped in, at least not yet.

The Aging devil then explains the reality of the situation. The countless trees surrounding them were once humans who, just like Denji, tried to find a way out.

However, they eventually gave up on their plans and were consumed by despair and became trees.

Another thing the Aging Devil revealed is that this transformation into trees isn’t a result of his devil powers.

It’s simply how this world operates, when someone in this realm reaches the “culmination of thought” or loses all hope, they naturally turn into trees.

The Aging Devil mocks Denji, asking how someone as young as him who has lived less than 20 years could possibly succeed in escaping a world that others have failed to leave after thousands of years.

Denji’s Unexpected Escape Plan

But Denji, as usual, has his own logic. He explains his super-smart plan. He started running laps not to escape but to make himself hungry.

Unlike everyone else trapped in this world, Denji’s stomach is still in the real world. Meanwhile, Asa created an axe using the tooth of the devil he vomited earlier.

Pochita is all healed up!

Denji uses that Axe on a tree. He cuts the human tree, spilling its insides, and eats it. This act regenerates Pochita and restores Pochita’s powers in the real world.

Aging Devil reveals to the Public Safety members that Chainsaw Man is now on his way. It ends on a chilling cliffhanger.

Public Safety had made a deal with the Aging Devil using Pochita to erase the concept of aging entirely, we learned this back in Chainsaw Man 175.

But in return, they agreed to sacrifice 10,000 children, all aged between 0-9, in front of mirrors.

CSM 185 Review

Denji reveals his clever escape plan in the latest chapter of Chainsaw Man, which isn’t exactly about running away, but simply getting hungry enough to make his stomach, still in the real world, work its magic.

This chapter sets up a showdown between the Aging Devil and Pochita, bringing us closer to a huge confrontation in the real world.

It is going to be Chainsaw Man vs Public Safety and Aging World in the next chapter. It was a fast-paced chapter but a fun read!
