Chainsaw Man 181 is finally here. War Devil and Denji are now stuck in the ‘Aging World’ created by the Aging Devil.
In the previous chapter, After mocking Yoru’s attack, the Aging Devil transported Yoru into a different world where nobody can die or age.
Asa takes over, at first she thinks she is dreaming but then she realizes she never slept. Yoru takes over the body again, and in the middle of the forest, they come across Denji who is lying there unconscious. Yoru tries to shoot Denji but her devil powers do not work.
They meet a man who explains that this realm was created by the Aging Devil. He’s been trapped there for 82 years and explains that in this world, no one ages or dies.
He also explains that he is the youngest one here and there are people who have lost their minds in this world.
What Happened in Chainsaw Man 181?
Chainsaw Man 181 starts with Yoru (War Devil) and Asa discussing about how to get out of this hell. Asa thinks that this is somewhat similar to that time with eternity devil and they can simply perceive this space as her own and turn it into a weapon.
Meanwhile, Yoru tries to figure things out, she tries shooting herself but nothing comes out, then she tries to turn a stick into a weapon but it doesn’t work either.
Yoru realizes what is really going on here she explains to Asa that this is not the same as that time with the Eternity Devil, they can’t use devil powers here.
Asa asks if Yoru has any plan but she admits defeat and says her powers are no match for the Aging Devil.
She bangs her head on a tree as she is frustrated, suddenly someone comes out of the tree which scares Yoru.
She trips over unconscious Denji, the strange man who was once a devil hunter appears again and explains to Yoru that if you live for 1000 years in this world, you can turn into a tree and when the tree rots and you have fully merged with the nature in this world, you can return to your body in the real world.
This scares Yoru even more and she starts to blame Chainsaw Man and starts beating him to wake him up. Denji starts apologizing as it has been a while since he appeared as himself, it was Pochita before. He gave up the control and Pochita went on killing and erasing streak with his body.
Denji says he is going to stay right here and become a tree, he considers this his punishment for everything that has happened because of him.
Denji starts crying which makes even Yoru emotional. The chapter ends on a cliffhanger with Yoru The War Devil kissing Denji.
This is not the first time she has kissed Denji, but before she always had ulterior motives, however this time it seems Denji really made her emotional.
Review
Well, that was unexpected! Denji’s overwhelmed with guilt, thinking this is his punishment, and in an emotional twist, Yoru ends up kissing him.
I personally think she is trying to comfort Denji so they both can figure a way out of this. Yoru has realized there is no way out nor does their devil powers work here.
The chapter leaves us on a major cliffhanger, with Denji’s emotional breakdown and Yoru showing a side of herself we didn’t quite expect. Overall, Chainsaw Man 181 was a solid chapter, it was a perfect balance of character development and suspense.
