Chainsaw Man 174 is finally here and we finally know what Public safety is really after. In the recent chapters, we saw Denji becoming more and more mentally sick.
He became the black chainsaw man and lost control completely as he lost so many people he cared about. Turns out he is only being used to test the theories of Public Safety.
In the previous chapter CSM 173, we saw him eat Ear Devil, and the ears were erased from the entire world and everyone forgot that it even existed.
CSM 174 title is Ayyy, Aging. In the previous chapter, a new primal devil was shown but nothing was revealed about him. In Chainsaw Man 174, it has been revealed that he is actually the aging devil.
Why Public Safety is Targeting Pochita
Public Safety knows about the ability “Erasure” of Pochita. When Chainsaw Man eats a devil, the devil’s associated concept is erased from the world.
When Denji ate Ear Devil, as mentioned above, everyone forgot about the ears, and the ears were erased from the world.
Fumiko Mifune explains to the government that they have a relationship with the Aging devil and they can make chainsaw man erase aging from the world.
So, the actual goal of Public Safety was to erase the aging from their world.
The aging Devil has no attachment to life and is fine with getting eaten by the Chainsaw Man. However, he demands something in return.
What Happened After Ears Were Erased?
Ears were erased from the world for a very short time. It turns out that even without ears, people could still hear, and things like cell phones and radios still worked.
Japanese government asked Fumiko what would happen if Aging is removed from the world but she didn’t have a definite answer, all they did was an experiment using the ear devil.
What Does Aging Devil Want in Return?
The new primal devil called Aging Devil demanded 10,000 Japanese children be murdered aged between 0-9 in front of mirrors.
Fumiko Mifune then asks the Former Minister of Finance for permission to move forward with this deal. He agrees and says it is a small price to pay for the future of Japan.
CSM 174 Ending Explained
As soon as Fumiko reaches out for her phone to call the chain of command to inform them that they have permission, she loses her mouth.
Turns out everyone has lost their mouth just like they lost their ears in the previous chapter.
The last panel of CSM 174 then shows that Octopus, Mouth, Snow, and Bitterness have been erased from the world.
It seems Black Chainsaw Man has been killing a lot of devils in the meantime. He has eaten the mouth devil along with Yoshida’s devil and many others.
Public Safety claims to have the situation under control but it does not seem that way. Pochito is completely out of control now and there is no way public safety can control the black chainsaw man anymore.
